The Lab: ION Haze Amp Gloves Review

In the “The Lab” we present the latest products and put them through their paces for you. Some undergo long-term tests, while we check others out only briefly. This time we reveal how the ION Haze Amp Gloves fared.

The perfect Winter MTB glove is an elusive animal but the ION Haze Amp glove ticks many of the boxes. It has a thin and grippy palm to give you maximum ‘feel’ of the bar; a windproof and lightly insulated outer to keep you warm; longer cuffs so that it tucks nicely inside your jacket and a digital finger tip so that you can upload your Instabangers on the hill. The fit is good too; long enough on the fingers and thumb so it didn’t stretch when you used your controls and the snug fitting palm didn’t bunch up. If that wasn’t enough it has a final trick up its sleeve (pun intended), a waterproof knuckle poncho pulls out of a stash pocket in the cuff and quickly covers your fingers. Genius!

A glove with a trick up it’s sleeve – a waterproof cover!
Thin but grippy palms gave fantastic feel, even in the wet
The ION Haze Amp stood up to a whole Winters abuse

The glove isn’t waterproof, it just keeps the worst off but waterproof gloves are usually too hot and sweaty anyway. We used the Haze Amp as low a -9 c and found the glove reasonably warm even when wet, which is where the extra layer of the cover worked best.
Durability was good – a few of the graphics have peeled after a hard 5 months of abuse and being washed too hot but the glove itself is still going strong.

Conclusion

Tested over the worst Winter in a decade, the ION Haze Amp Gloves are fantastic for hard riding in cold and wet conditions.
