The Lab: Deuter Attack Enduro 16 Review
Our global test team has been pushing products to the very limit on the world’s toughest trails. In The Lab, durability is rewarded and weaknesses have nowhere to hide. This time, we tested the Deuter Attack Enduro 16 backpack.
Our ENDURO editor Manne has been using his Deuter Attack 16 for almost one and a half years now, both on the trails and on his daily commute to work. Yes, the Attack 16 is an enduro-specific backpack and is the little brother in the Attack “back-protector” family. Still, this hasn’t stopped Manne from using it as his full-time daypack. The reason? Great versatility and a clever arrangement of compartments which allow for the neat and safe stowage of tools in the front pouch. The rest of the usual touring or enduro-race paraphernalia will easily fit in the main compartment or in one of the deep side pockets. Furthermore, the Attack 16 fits like a glove and features a brilliantly working ventilation system. Other clever additions are an easily accessible and well-protected smartphone pouch, a rain cover, a full-face helmet retention system, an externally accessible water reservoir compartment, and a pouch for your glasses.
The SAS-Tec foam back protector makes the Deuter Attack 16 substantially heavier than a regular similarly sized daypack, but on the other hand it creates a very good feeling of protection. For those who can live without that extra feeling, the protection plate can easily be removed, reducing the 1.540 g overall weight of the Attack by a reasonable 340 grams. The high-quality construction and impressive durability of Deuter products justify the slightly higher price tag of € 179.
