Race Report | Absa Cape Epic Stage 2 – The Specialized riders defend their overall lead

Cape Town/Oak Valley – During the night the wind pounded against the tents of the riders and the crew at the Absa Cape Epic in Oak Valley. The second stage dawned, seeing the riders battle strong winds for the 92-kilometre stage. With ominous clouds shrouding the Groenlandberg, Christoph Sauser and Jaroslav Kulhavy (Investec Songo Specialized) took the stage win after four hours and seven minutes on the bike, maintaining the overall lead of this tough stage race. Mental strength, tactical astuteness and Jaro’s powerfulness were the decisive factors for the Swiss-Czech Team.

Race Report | Absa Cape Epic Stage 1 – The favourites go face to face

Cape Town/Oak Valley – The favourites of this year’s Absa Cape Epic will set out on tomorrow’s stage in the leaders’ jersey. Christoph Sauser (SUI) and Jaroslav Kulhavy (CZE) from Investec-Songo-Specialized team won the first stage of South Africa’s mountain bike race ahead of the toughest competition, which took the form of the German-Swiss team Karl Platt/Urs Huber (Team Bulls). Their lead in the general classification currently stands at 45 seconds – and as the Absa Cape Epic isn’t called the “Tour de France for mountain bikers” for nothing, a lot can happen over the next few days.

Race Report | Absa Cape Epic – Surprising Victory at Prologue

Swiss riders Fabian Giger and Martin Gujan (Novus OMX Pro) sprung something of a surprise as they swept into the yellow zebra jersey in Sunday’s Absa Cape Epic Prologue. Most of the big guns kept their powder dry on a day that favoured cross country specialists, but four-times winners Karl Platt and Christoph Sauser were second and third with their teammates. Defending Sasol Women’s category champions Ariane Kleinhans of Switzerland and Annika Langvad of Denmark (RECM Specialized) took a convincing 3 minute and 35 second lead, blasting past many of the top professional women who started ahead of them in the time trial.

Race Report: Enduro de les Salines Invitational (Catalonia-Spain)

What began as a joke became the highest category Enduro event in Spain to date… The federation communicated to the organization at the end of 2014 that this year the race will not be included in the point values for the championship. After five years Maçanet de Cabrenys is left out. After speaking with the French organizers, we found out that we have also been left out of the Trophy of the Pyrenees. Once the decision had been made to not hold an event this year, the organizers spoke to Damien Oton (Devinci) and he commented that what the riders want to do is ride, and the locale of Les Salines is perfect for the Enduro. They also spoke with Jérôme Clemetz, Remy Absalon… and all agreed that they did not care about trophies. Instead, what they want is to put the finishing touches on their preparation for the World Cup… The idea of holding an Invitational Enduro and that camaraderie be the foundation of the weekend began to percolate in the minds of the people of a village of just 600 inhabitants.
