Meerendal/South Africa – The Swiss cycling legend Christoph Sauser (Investec-Songo-Specialized) has seen success across the full spectrum of mountain biking and what could be a more fitting goodbye to one of the best careers in pro cycling than winning the Absa Cape Epic? Riding with Jaroslav Kulhavy, Sauser has become the first person in history to win this epic 8-stage mountain bike race five times. After the final 92-kilometre stage to the Meerendal Wine Estate near Cape Town, the pair finished a total of ten minutes ahead of their biggest rivals, Alban Lakata (AUT) and Kristian Hynek (CZE) from Team Topeak Ergon. The other hotly touted favourites, Karl Platt (GER) and Urs Huber (SUI) from Team Bulls finished in third place.

Wellington/South Africa – “Shortly before the finish I asked Alban what our tactic should be: a truce or a sprint finish? The answer was to sprint, so we did it like true men”, exclaimed an excited Christoph Sauser (Investec-Songo-Specialized) after crossing the finish line of today’s stage at the Absa Cape Epic. Three tenths of a second was the advantage that Sauser and Jaroslav Kulhavy gained ahead of their biggest rivals, Alban Lakata (AUT) and Kristian Hynek (CZE) from Team Topeak Ergon.

Wellington/South Africa – Unfazed by the heat, the dust, the headwind and a mechanical problem, it seemed nothing could prevent the Swiss rider Christoph Sauser and his Czech partner Jaroslav Kulhavy from taking their fourth stage win at the Absa Cape Epic. The stage took riders on the 121 km stretch from Worcester to Wellington with 2,500 metres of climbing.
