SCOTT Genius 910 Review
A classic steed from the Swiss stable, the SCOTT Genius is a familiar sight on the trails – but does it still have the means to bat with the big boys? This group test aims to find out if it has kept up with the competition.
As coiffured as a model at Paris Fashion Week, the SCOTT Genius 910 takes to the catwalk of this group test as one of the veterans in the field – although its age (four years and counting) is barely perceptible. For the current season, SCOTT have brought its spec firmly up to date in terms of technology, seeing the 29er feature a 2×11 Shimano XT drivetrain, a RockShox Reverb Stealth dropper post, and FOX Performance suspension. Both the stock FOX 34 Performance Elite fork and specially-designed FOX Nude rear shock can be controlled at the bars thanks to the familiar TwinLoc technology with its three settings: open, traction, and lock-out. Not only is platform damping switched on, but the air chamber also decreases in volume and its travel is reduced.
[emaillocker id=”139658″]This 29er unleashes its kick even in the traction mode, and its aggressive riding position takes it up gradients with aplomb. Additionally, you can rely on the 2x drivetrain for ample gears. The lock-out mode is ideal for long tarmacked climbs. Interestingly, despite boasting the biggest travel in the test fleet, the SCOTT won’t be winning any downhill comfort competitions. The linear rear end was pretty harsh over trail chatter, and rushed through its travel in the mid-stroke. More feedback and support would be appreciated by speedier and more full-on riders. Cornering is a fairly relaxed affair on the Genius, although tight turns in quick succession might require some body English. The 29er wheels are an asset which helps keep the Genius in control over technical terrain.

The SCOTT Genius 910 is destined for long hours in the saddle. Its comfortable riding position and multi-faceted suspension render it capable of conquering whatever climb lies ahead of you on the trail. Riders with an equal affection for climbs and descents can go home happy with the Genius, as even after four years on the market it still recognizes a good trail ride.
