Review: Specialized Command Post – Dropper Seatpost
For 2014 Specialized has revised its Command Post. With a redesigned saddle clamp, and trimmed down weight, the post now weighs in at a competitive 583 grams (including lever and cable). The purchase price of this brand new seatpost has not been confirmed at the time of our editorial deadline.

The saddle clamp offset towards the rear has been retained, providing more rearward adjustment to the (pedaling) position on the bike – definitely a consideration when buying this post. Specialized has divided the Command’s total travel of 125 mm into three positions. The post locks at 0 mm, 35 mm and 125 mm. In contrast to the Fox D.O.S.S., there is no extra lever for the middle position, requiring a little practice to find the correct position. Sometimes patience is required as the lock-in does not always work right away. In races this may cost you valuable seconds. Apart from the occasional delayed lock-in, the Command Post worked just fine and did not present any lateral or vertical play during the test.
The post is controlled via a compact remote lever which is connected to the post via internal cable routing. The clamp of the remote integrates onto Specialized grips, allowing for clean mounting of the remote control within the cockpit. Thanks to the rounded edges, the elegantly swung lever clings to your operating finger and triggers the post with gentle pressure. The revised saddle clamp is now adjusted with a single bolt, making the mounting of a saddle a piece of cake.
