Mountain Products Sticky Pod Mini in review
In the “The Lab” we present the latest products and put them through their paces for you. Some undergo long-term tests, while we check others out only briefly. This time we reveal how the Mountain Products Sticky Pod Mini fared.
A classic scenario is when you’re due to meet your mates but you’re already behind schedule. To make matters worse, you’ve now got to scour the shed for your multi-tool, CO2 cartridge and tire plugs; you’re never going to catch up with the clock. So it’s fortunate when you’ve got the Sticky Pod mini bag. Over the past few months this nifty pack has served editor Christoph supremely well. He’s the sort of rider who detests backpacks and insists on wearing the Specialized Mountain Liner Bib Shorts with SWAT on virtually every single ride. The pockets on those bibs have space for all your essentials – including this Sticky Pod. The pack consists of three mesh pockets for your multi-tool, CO2 adapter and tire plugs, plus a zipped compartment where you can stow a chain link and coins. You can attach a CO2 cartridge using an elastic fastener.
With your essential tools kept in one compact, water resistant location, the ability to deal with mechanical mishaps is a cert. Christoph’s Sticky Pod mini, when loaded up with his tools, weighs in at 314 g. – in his opinion this nudges the upper limit of what can be carried in the bib shorts. The pockets have a tendency to bounce a little while riding, and the neoprene knobs that give the Sticky Pod its name only make a token gesture. The Sticky Pod can also be used as a bag-inside-a-bag, for whichever bag you’re taking on a ride. Just switch it from place to place. It also comes in a bigger version for those interested in taking more than just the minimal supplies. After three months of usage, the Sticky Pod doesn’t show any signs of wear and tear.
They say that good organisation is half the battle, and the Sticky Pod Mini helps Christoph to make sure he’s got the essential tools on every ride. It’s compact, robust and serves a real purpose, which makes it a must-have for all riders.
