Industry Bike Check: Neil Halcrow’s Custom Whyte 909 Hardtail

The UK ENDURO team recently attended the Whyte Vallelujha enduro in the Tweed Valley, Scotland. Not only was there some great racing on offer, but sniffing around the pits we found this very nice ‘personal project’ Whyte 909 hardtail owned by Whyte’s Sales and Training Manager Neil Halcrow. Neil has access to the best-of-the-best components, so we knew his custom creation would be something special, and special it is. Neil Halcrow’s personal custom 909 has been blinged out with some very nice upgrades.
Neil is running a RaceFace Stealth SIXC 35 mm carbon bar with 20 mm rise cut to 780 mm.
Hope Pro4 EVO Boost hubs are built onto the latest Hope 35W rims, running a Maxxis Minion SS 27.5×2.3 EXO rear at 28 Psi, Maxxis Highroller 27.5×2.4 EXO 3C MaxxTerra Front at 26 Psi.
The highlight of Neil’s custom 909 is certainly the full SRAM XX1 EAGLE drivetrain.
The 909 is Whyte’s definitive UK hardtail, rugged, precise and surgical in intention.
Braking is provided by a Hope Race Evo brake set, with 180 mm rotors front and rear.
Neil has fitted a RockShox Stealth Dropper post, the low standover allows for a full 150 mm drop. The superlight 155 g Fizik Gobi Saddle finishes the build.
Neil runs a RockShox Pike RTC3 130 mm fork, with stealthy black logos. The fork is fitted with 2 tokens and is running 75 Psi. Neil has chosen Hope Technology Tech 35W rims for their wide internal profile.
Built for speed, a fast rolling Maxxis Minion SS 27.5×2.3 EXO rear tyre keeps things fast in a straight line, and wild in the turns.
Neil is undoubtebly stoked with his custom 909 – who could not love a blinged out hardtail.
