First Look: We check out the All Mountain Style OM 45 stem
The requirements for a stem are clear: it should combine maximum strength with the possible weight and ideally still look good. All of these points are fulfilled by the the All Mountain Style OM 45 stem with aplomb. We took a closer look:
Two Spaniards Xavi and Carles from Barcelona are behind the company All Mountain Style, which has set itself the task of making the biking world better and more beautiful with its parts. All of the products it develops are manufactured locally.
The name for their first stem is an allusion to Dr. Duncan “Om” MacDougall who attempted to determine the weight of the human soul. He came up with a weight of 21 grams. Both the Spaniards were fascinated with this number and wanted to create a stem which forms a benchmark in the enduro and downhill sectors. This is why the 121g stem bears the name, OM 45.
As you might have figured out from the name the stem has a length of 45mm. This should guarantee optimal control and direct handling. It is compatible with 1 1/8″ fork steerer tubes and features a 31.8 mm handlebar clamp and 0° rise.
The facts:
- Steerer tube: 1 1/8″
- Handlebar clamp: 31.8 mm
- Weight: 121 g incl. bolts
- Length: 45 mm
- Rise: 0º
- Height: 30 mm
- Bar clamp width: 55 mm
- Material: CNC 6082 T6 Aluminium-Block
- Finish: black anodized
Other stems in comparison:
- Truvativ Holzfeller: 40mm / 190g
- Syntace Mega Force 2: 50 mm / 122 g
- Thomson Elite X4: 40mm / 155g
- Easton Havoc: 50mm / 185g
- Race Face Atlas: 50mm / 150g
Our first impressions:
We’ve been using the stem now for several weeks and can say: the new All Mountain Style OM 45 impresses with classy finish, low weight and excellent function. Thanks to the low clamping force it also protects your bars. The chic design and the local manufacturing have their price however, at €135 the stem isn’t a bargain.
