Ultra Runner Tim Tollefson Battles Body Dysmorphia in New Film
‘What Goes Unsaid’ is an intimate portrait of one ultrarunner’s battles with mental health and eating disorders.
Tim Tollefson is an ultrarunner who never looked like an ultrarunner. At least that’s what he’s told himself over a running career that stretches back to middle school.
“I thought I had to change my body to be more successful,” Tollefson says in “What Goes Unsaid,” a new film from COROS. “I’ve had a lot of races that didn’t go that well, and it’s because I’ve never worked on the mind.”
In the film, Tollefson opens up about his lifelong struggles with body image, anxiety, and other mental health issues related to his career as an ultrarunner. It’s a poignant reminder that many people struggling with mental health — including elite athletes — do so in painful silence.
Hopefully, the more people are open about their issues — as in this film — the more other people will seek help.
Runtime: 20 minutes
