Road Cyclists Take on the Leadville Trail 100 MTB Race
American road race champion Alex Howes and teammate Lachlan Morton take on the epically difficult Leadville Trail 100.
“I fire that shotgun to start the race, and you put your nose on the handlebars and you start pedaling, and you keep pedaling until Merilee tells you to quit. That’ll be the finish line.”
The Leadville Trail 100 is an out-and-back 100-mile course that never drops below 10,000 feet. It’s considered one of the most challenging MTB races and regularly beats up seasoned mountain bikers. That’s why it’s doubly amazing to see road cyclists competing.
As part of the alternative cycling calendar from Rapha and EF Education First, this video chronicles the ups and downs of the race — all while capturing the true spirit of the Leadville Trail 100.
