Outdoor Brands Unite to Launch Global Hiking Campaign: Here’s How to Join
The Hike United 21 global hiking campaign will consist of organized group hikes across the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and Switzerland.
The campaign officially kicks off next month to promote inclusivity in the outdoors, nature conservation, and mental health. Individuals interested in joining the initiative can join a local hike or host one, and participation is open to all.
The campaign is a collaborative effort led by the In Solidarity Project, Latino Outdoors, the Outdoor Advocacy Project, and Women Who Hike. Through In Solidarity’s Outdoor CEO Diversity Pledge program, the grassroots initiative aims to “[bring] together the outdoor community to show a collective commitment of unity for the protection of our planet and one another,” In Solidarity Project founder Teresa Baker said.
Sound good? Here’s how to get in on the trail-treading action.
Joining the Global Hiking Campaign
The initiative isn’t concerned with tallies or tracking participant data. Instead, the Hike United 21 campaign focuses on getting people together and outside.
As organizers note: “No specific trail. No specific distance.”
Individual Participants
Individuals can access the growing schedule of Hike United’s events at Womenwhohike.com.
Those interested in arranging and hosting hikes can notify the campaign organizers by filling out the Hike United 2021 Group Hike Submission form. The campaign encourages hosts to research trail permit requirements for their area before signing up.
Finally, Hike United encourages hosts and participants to read through the guidance issued by Recreate Responsibly, which addresses outdoor stewardship and safety practices.
Partner Organizations
In addition to Hike United’s founding members is a long and growing list of corporate and nonprofit partners. Hydro Flask, HOKA ONE ONE, Gaia GPS, and Goal Zero are just some of the big names lending support for the hike.
Brands, cooperatives, and groups can partner with the global hiking campaign by sending an email to hello@womenwhohike.com. Partners are under no financial obligation to the cause. Instead, they must spread the word about the global hiking initiative.
A partner toolkit containing social media content and #HikeUnited21 assets is made readily available to participating organizations.
