MoonBike: World’s First All-Electric Snowbike Is Silent, Compact

MoonBikes unveiled its innovative electric snow bike at Las Vegas’ CES trade show this week. Significantly lighter, smaller, and quieter than traditional snowmobiles, it looks ideal for peaceful winter wonderland outings.

“I’ve always wanted to create a machine to make winter exploration fun and easy,” MoonBikes founder and CEO Nicolas Muron stated.

It looks like the company’s done just that. The MoonBike weighs just under 200 pounds, tops out at 26 mph, and pumps out zero emissions from its electric motor. With the first preorders set for delivery in mid-January, all systems are go.

The little rig is essentially an electric moped on a track and ski. Considering that, the concept’s simplicity is its strength. The MoonBike might not get you to your secret ice fishing shack deep in the thicket, but it looks perfectly capable for quick semi-backcountry trips.

Notably, the company does stop short of listing the machine’s range in mileage. The range is 1.5 hours on a full charge or 3 hours with an optional second battery.

It’s easy to maneuver and transport; it’s small enough to fit through a door and light enough for two people to lift into a truck bed. At its weight, it’s even light enough to ride on a hitch-mounted carrier.

Once you get where you’re going, it can handle powder 12 inches deep and grades up to 40%. No need to worry about cold starts, either. It’s temperature resistant to -77 degrees Fahrenheit.

Preorder a MoonBike now for delivery starting in mid-January. Starting MSRP is $8,500. The range-doubling auxiliary battery costs $1,800, and a fast charger (speeds up full charge time to 3 hours) runs $400. Two color options are available. The white variant throws Planet Hoth vibes, and the black/red is more Kylo Ren.

As MoonBikes puts it, each gives you the ability to play in powder without churning out the emissions that melt it.
