iKamper Launches Sleep System: Specially Designed Bedding for Rooftop Tents

iKamper’s rooftop tent sleep system is designed for those who like to camp a little closer to the stars.

After a massively successful Kickstarter for its four-person Skycamp tent, iKamper is expanding its offerings with accessories to complement its rooftop tents (RTTs). The collection of rooftop camping gear from the South Korean brand is designed to fit perfectly in the nontraditional RTT footprint.

At the launch of this new product line, iKamper is offering inflatable mattresses, sleeping bags, and blankets. Each is available in one- and two-person versions, and all are designed to work perfectly in RTTs.

iKamper Rooftop Tent Mattress Tech

The main attraction is the RTT (Roof-Top Tent) Comfort, a self-inflating mattress meant for four-season use. Using a combination of air and open-cell foam, the 4-inch-thick iKamper RTT Comfort mattress has an R-value of 7.8 to help keep you warm.

iKamper offers five mattress sizes (MSRP $219-349), all designed to fit iKamper’s own RTTs. Even if you don’t own an iKamper tent, the range of sizes gives you choices for other brands’ RTTs as well as enabling the use of the mattress in ground tents, trailers, and anywhere else you might want to sleep.

Vents on the top and sides of the mattress allow the use of an optional AirDown air pump to power inflate the mattress if its self-inflating feature isn’t quick enough for you. Deflation (and inflation) of the mattress take as little as a minute when using the AirDown pump.

Using the same vents, the mattress deflates to take up less space in the tent when stowed. This allows you to leave more gear in-situ when packing up your tent.

RTT Sleeping Bags

iKamper is also offering two sleeping bags: the RTT Sleeper and the RTT Sleeper DPL. The RTT Sleeper (MSRP $369) is meant for one camper and is packed with 1,000 g of 90/10 white duck down. The down is 100% Responsible Down Standard (RDS)-certified and is toasty enough for a 14-degree Fahrenheit temperature rating.

The Sleeper DPL (MSRP $289) is big enough for two. It uses PrimaLoft Bio, a synthetic insulation that’s made from 100% recycled fibers. iKamper says it will keep you insulated even when it gets wet, and it’s rated to 26 degrees Fahrenheit.

Both bags put about 60% of the insulation on the top, with the rest on the bottom. This helps make the bags more effective in RTTs where, iKamper says, the floor is usually warmer.

Pockets inside the bags hold small items like your phone. Campers can use a strap at the bottom of the bags to turn them from rectangular into mummy-style bags, perfect for bundling up in the cold or spreading out when it’s warmer.

Blankets for More Warmth and Camp Comfort

When you need even more warmth, the iKamper sleep system has a pair of blankets to go with those bags. The RTT Blanket (MSRP $179), like the Sleeper, has RDS 90/10 white duck down insulation — 300 g of it this time. Combine the blanket and bag for a cumulative zero-degree Fahrenheit temperature rating.

Like the DPL bag, the two-person DBL Blanket (MSRP $199) uses PrimaLoft Bio recycled insulation to increase its ability to keep you warm, whether the weather is wet or dry. Both blankets are water-resistant as well as machine washable for use outside the tent or when things get wet and muddy.

All of the pieces in the iKamper sleep system can pack down into a stuff sack or carry pouch to help streamline packing and take up less space when you’re not sleeping.
