For the Love of Winter: In ‘Sunbirds,’ Arc’teryx Celebrates Our Human Passion for Snow
Premiering at the 2022 Arc’teryx winter film tour, ‘Sunbirds’ is a stunning visual love letter to winter and an ode to its importance in the natural world.
Snowbirds love summer, but sunbirds wait all year long for the winter months. They’re the people who dream about skiing or snowshoeing in July and August, who can’t wait for the snow to fall, for the nights to grow longer, as the days grow clearer and colder.
“Sunbirds” is debuting as part of the Arc’teryx For the Love of Winter tour. The tour is focused on “tales of big mountains and backcountry lines, cold-air inspiration and powder-forged friendships.”
Of the nine films premiering on the tour, “Sunbirds” is one of the most poetic and moving. It’s an ode to winter and a reflection on why it’s so important for us to protect it. Not just because we love to play in the snow, but because winter serves such an important ecological role.
And more than that, for all the sunbirds out there, winter serves a spiritual role as well.
Check out the tour’s remaining dates and locations to see if you can still catch one of its preseason shows.
And if you miss “Sunbirds” this time, Arc’teryx will be adding additional dates for the 2023 leg of the tour in San Francisco; Los Angeles; Montreal; Paris; London; Oslo; Norway; St. Anton, Austria; and Zurich, Switzerland.
You can buy tickets on the Arc’teryx website.
