Family, Father-Son Team Competes in a Bikepacking Gravel Race
A father and his young son take on a long-distance bikepacking race together to commemorate their shared experiences.
RJ Sauer will bikepack across 200 miles of gravel trails with an elevation gain of 10,000 feet with his 3-year-old son Oliver. That’s not all, either. There is a 24-hour time limit on the race.
The duo will be competing in this year’s Rexy, Queen of the Desert! Gravel Race, which is happening October 8-9, 2022. This point-to-point “gravel extravaganza” starts in Moab, Utah, and ends in Fruita, Colorado.
The “Along for the Ride” film premiere, presented by Salsa Cycles, reflects RJ and “Ollie’s” unique collective past adventures together that have led to the upcoming race.
“So, my hope for the race is that we can have a good time together. Just like all of our adventures, I’m hoping it’s a chance for Ollie to see something new and for me to see something new,” said rider RJ Sauer. “I’m looking forward to all those unexpected moments that we have on the trail.”
“The real joy and excitement, I think, comes from that unknown that we experience when we’re out there,” RJ added.
And thanks to Salsa, we can join along for those unexpected moments along the ride.
Runtime: 35 minutes
