Climbing, Skiing 20,000-Foot Peaks: Mammut Ski Mountaineers Reveal How They Prepare

The second installment of Mammut’s ‘Stories From Avalanche Terrain’ documents a harrowing quest for groundbreaking lines deep within Pakistan — and serves as a crash course in avalanche safety.

“The Call” follows professional ski mountaineers Sam Anthamatten and Jérémie Heitz as they attempt to climb and ski 20,000-foot peaks. Their expedition required years of physical and mental conditioning, months of route planning, and countless hours preparing for the worst.

Throughout the short film, Anthamatten and Heitz provide insightful lessons on risk management, tough decision-making, honest communication, and breaking the spell cast by summit ambitions.

And, Mammut reminds us, “practicing with your Basic 4 — beacon, probe, shovel, airbag backpack — builds muscle memory and allows you to focus on the human element of your avalanche safety protocol. ”

Take a look.
