MTB MAG Readers Awards 2016: XC Bikes

We’ve reached the third round of a series of surveys for Mtb-Mag Readers Awards 2016, in which readers select their favorite bikes that have been nominated by the editors. In this poll, voting is dedicated to Cross Country, in both front or full suspension. 10 candidates were selected from bikes tested by the editorial staff and of particular relevance among those bikes on the market in 2016. In this survey, click on the name of each bike you will be directed to its article or the test with all the details.

Bianchi Methanol CV

The iconic Italian brand  comes in strong with proprietry “CounterVail” technology in their carbon fiber hardtail frame. Fork with 100mm of travel. Boost spacing, 29″ wheels and Di2 storage are a few of the key features.

BMC Fourstroke

This frame is full suspended and entirely in carbon, including the upper link. 100mm of travel front and rear. 29″ wheels and full compatibility for any electronic components, Shimano Di2 and the FOX Float DFP system. The Fourstroke also includes internal seatpost routing.

Cannondale Scalpel Si

This is the most recent evolution of the Cannondale workhorse in the XC full suspension field. 100mm travel at both 29-inch wheels, with a Lefty fork and Zero Pivot kinematics. Full carbon frame, including the upper link which drives the shock. The bike is also fully prepared and routed for an internal dropper seatpost.

Canyon Exceed CF

The direct sales brand leader’s flagship XC bike has 29-inch wheels and a fork with 100mm of travel, particularly low weight and it also features IPU fork stops which stop the rotation of the handlebar before it touches the frame when dropped.

Cube Elite C68

The Cube hardtail is constructed with their C68 carbon, with more fiber and less resin, for greater rigidity and robustness. The fork features 100mm travel. It is fitted for 29 inch wheels. The bike gives a nod to downhill performance with its internal dropper post routing.

Focus O1E

Full suspension with 100mm of travel at both ends with FOLD kinematic to keep things both sensitive and progressive. A carbon frame, rigid with aggressive geometries and 29-inch wheels round out the package. Lastly, the O1E is prepared for dropper seatposts.

A full carbon hardtail frame completely renovated from KTM’s previous version with improved geometry and Boost 148mm spacing. 29-inch wheels and 100mm travel up front. Prepared for Di2 electronic drivetrain.

Scott Spark RC

The new Spark is entirely of carbon fiber for an extremely competitive weight in the full suspension category. It has 29″ wheels with Boost spacing, forks with 100mm of travel and a matching 100mm travel out back managed by a metric FOX Nude shock, with unique technology that controls the volume of air from the handlebars. It also has internal dropper post cable routing.

Specialized Epic HT

The Epic Hardtail has a super lightweight carbon frame whose fibers are oriented so as to ensure both stiffness and comfort. The fork features Brain technology with 100mm of travel and the 29 “wheels have Boost spacing. SWAT integrated system and steering lock are icing on the cake while the bike is prepared to accept both Di2 and internally routed dropper posts.

Trek ProCaliber

Trek’s hardtail uses a particular joint called Iso Speed ​​to isolate the seat tube and offer more comfort in the full carbon frame. It’s spec’d with 29-inch wheels, Boost hubs and a fork with 100mm of travel.
