Introducing the Leatt DBX 6.0 Carbon

[ad3]

We recently got our hands on a new Leatt DBX 6.0 Carbon helmet for testing.  The South African company which introduced spinal protection (in the form of neck braces) to the cycling industry just entered the helmet world.  Unsurprisingly, they’re taking a very different approach to their design.

First and foremost, Leatt obviously considers safety the number one priority. Eleven “360 Turbines” are placed strategically between the EPS and rider’s head.

These bumpers are made of soft “Armourgel” that hardens on impact. They improve the multiple-impact protection, but more importantly reduce the head impact at concussion level by up to 30% and the rotational acceleration to head and brain by up to 40%.  Leatt reduced the outer shell volume and helmet weight, which also lowers the G-forces transferred to the head and brain.

We’ll be putting our helmet to use over the next few months to see how it treats us on the DH trails.  The fit and finish is excellent and our first impressions are very good, but it’s far too early to tell.  We’ll keep you posted.
