Henrique Avancini’s custom “Brazilian” Cannondale Scalpel

At the upcoming World Cup in Petrópolis, Brazil, Avancini will ride a Cannondale Scalpel that has been transformed into a true work of art , by artist Décio Benício, from Black Tiger Studio. This bike will be donated by Cannondale and auctioned through the largest cycling marketplace platform in Brazil, Semexe, through this link.

The amount collected from the auction will be used for the professional training of bicycle mechanics, who are in a situation of social vulnerability, through a broader training program, which offers tools of entrepreneurship, personal finance and safe riding. Aromeiazero Institute, a Brazilian non-profit organization, is the operational partner for Pedaling for a Reason 2022. The program will be free and will prioritize individuals from historically marginalized communities including:

  • Brown, Black and Indigenous individuals
  • Individuals with children/children under their responsibility
  • Women

Bidding started on March 24 at 6PM, and the auction runs until April 11, with an initial bid of R$ 50,000.00. The auction and opportunity to win the Cannondale Scalpel is only open to individuals in Brazil.

The main inspiration for the project was the predominant fauna and flora of the region of Petrópolis (Rio de Janeiro): yellow Ipê trees and Maritaca birds. For the background of the work, a special painting that transits between green (forest) and blue (sky) was chosen, adding depth and a layered feel. On the sides of the bike frame, there’s a larger Maritaca bird, and on the top tube a flock of these birds represented in yellow. The colors green and yellow also remind us of the Brazilian flag. All work was executed by by artist Décio Benício, from Black Tiger Studio.
