[First Look] Race Face Introduces the Era eMTB Crankset

Race Face just announced a follow up to their new Era crankset, specifically for e-bikes. We have been riding a set for a few weeks now and have found them to be quite good generally speaking, but we’re a ways out from a long term review. In the mean time, you can find the full details on the newly available cranks below…

Details

  • Uni-Directional Carbon Fiber
  • 160mm, 165mm, and 170mm lengths
  • 370 grams with boots and washers
  • Bosch Gen 4 (optimized), Bosch Gen 2, TQ HPR50 (optimized)
  • Lifetime warranty
  • $429.99 USD

The new cranks feature the stainless steel wear plate first introduced on the standard Era. Props to Race Face for labeling the cranks with Right and Left stickers. Once there are off, there is an additional marking on the inside of the crank itself so you won’t accidentally install these backwards. It might seem trite, but I’ve already been in a situation where a set of e-bike cranks were mounted backwards and caused major headaches for a friend.

The sturdy rubber crank boots are available in 8 colors for customization.

The hardware makes for easy self extraction and installation/removal with an 8mm allen key.

I weighed my 160mm cranks without boots and washers, but seeing them come in at 349 grams makes me think that RF’s 370 gram claimed figure with boots/washers is likely quite accurate.

A top down view of the Era-E crankarm…Stay tuned for a long term review!
