[First Look] New Hope Crankset

Few days ago Hope announced its new crankset. The british brand sent us a brand new sample for a long term review, that we assembled on our Santacruz 5010 test bike. Suited to XC, All Mountain and Enduro use, this crankset was a pleasure for the eyes as soon as we opened the box.

Out of the box

In the box Hope put a bunch of tools needed to assembly the cranks on your bike. In the photo you can see on top the bottom bracket tool (30mm axle). On the left there is the cranks extractor, used to unwound the non-driveside crank, together with the tool on the right, a sort of spacer. The two other tools on the bottom are the tapered nut that expands the splines of the axle and the assembly tool with a 19mm bolt head, better recognizable in the photo below.

The lockring tool fits perfectly on the lockring when assembling the chainring to the cranks.

The assembling and disassembling is easier than it looks. We tried assembling and disassembling the cranks on two different bikes and, following the instructions, it was no problem.

The weight of the spiderless cranks with the 32T chainring is exactly 700 grams. That’s the same weight of the SRAM X1 cranks (690 grams with the 30T chainring) and well above the Race Face Next SL (480 grams with the 32T chairing). The BB weights exactly 100 grams.
