[First Look] GT Bicycles Fury – Long Term Test – Frame Kit

[ad3]After our recent coverage of GT’s Team Camp, it dawned on us that while we’ve spent a substantial amount of time on the Sanction and the Force, we haven’t really tested a GT DH bike in recent years.  Long story short, we reached out to them to test their Fury frame kit.  The World Championship & World Cup overall winning frame stands out in a sea of $4,000 plus carbon fiber options as a proven, aluminum race sled that comes in at just $2,170.  We’ll be spending a few months aboard this frame and a custom built to see how it fares along the West Coast of North America.

A burly 125mm head tube length in all 4 sizes. We’ll likely build it with a fully internal headset to give us some adjustability in head angle as well as handlebar/BB height.

Post mount rear brakes are always ideal. The derailleur cable goes through the rear seatstay as the only internally routed cable on the bike.

EXTREMELY burly dropouts, molded rubber chainstay protection and axle pinchbolts that have some added security : a set screw. Nifty.

Our size large frame shipped with a 400 pound spring. We’ll check our sag, but knowing that Brook MacDonald runs a 475, we’re thinking we might bump up to 425, or 450. Good thing FOX is just 15 minutes from us stateside. The FOX DHX RC2 is likely the biggest update to the Fury this year. With 4 way adjustability and a new super light spring that is available in 25 pound increments, it should be a bit upgrade from the past model.

All the little details. Everything about this frame is just flat out BURLY. Pivots, trusses & the seat mast are HUGE as is most of the tubeset. We’re excited to go smashing on the Fury. We’ll check back over the coming weeks and let you know how it treats us.
