50 Years of GT Bicycles
Half a century of MTB history: the iconic GT Bicycles turns 50.
[Press Release] 2022 marks the 50th anniversary of GT Bicycles and five decades of inspiration for bikers dedicated to creating street and off-road culture on two wheels. To celebrate its monumental birthday, GT is taking its (birthday) party around with a four-event global tour that will stop in the US, UK and Chile.
“The stops will be filled with jam sessions, shop visits and industry events,” said Mike Marro, GT Bicycles Senior Brand Manager. “GT legends, current athletes and ambassadors will help keep the party going along the way. You can definitely expect an appearance from Hans Rey, a visit to meet our founder Gary Turner and so much more.
GT plans to continue the celebrations online as well. Each of the brand’s social channels will be packed with live content from its cast of characters and interviews. The fun begins in April at the Sea Otter Classic in Monterey, California. From there, the crew will head along the west coast.
Since its inception, GT has been relevant on the scene by always sharing interest with fans and riders who embody the spirit of fun. “GT bikes have always found the balance between performance and accessibility. We are driven to create bikes that are fast, reliable and, above all, fun, ”said Mike Marro, GT Senior Brand Manager. “Today more than ever we draw on the fun offered by our bicycles; from mountains to roads, riders get on a GT to tell their stories. We are thrilled to celebrate this moment and bring momentum into the next 50 years ”.
Born in 1972 out of the need to make a better bike for bikers, Gary Turner designed his first BMX for his son Craig to race. People, including shop owner Richard Long, took notice and the two teamed up to start GT Bicycles producing some of the best BMX and mountain bikes in the world.
