WTB rolls out new Convict downhill tire
The WTB Convict is the most aggressive tire the brand has ever produced.
The new Convict from WTB is the gnarliest tire the company has ever created. It has tall knobs with multi-direction channels for improved traction whether it’s dry and sandy or damp and loamy. If you’re a fan of their Vigilante tire, but wanted something that took things one step further on the shred-o-meter, this is it.
The tread has multi-direction siping.
According to Evan Smith, WTB’s tire designer, “The Convict 2.5 is our gravity specialist, whether it be charging bike park laps, the most unforgiving enduro stages, or those all-mountain shuttles where the emphasis is clearly on the descents.”
For that reason, the tire will initially only be available in 27.5″ sizes, though we hope a 29” version for bikes such as the Niner WFO and Specialized Enduro 29er is also in works.
The Convict will be available in three different combinations of tire compound and casings.
The Convict is currently available in three different tire compound and casing combinations. The TCS light version has a race casing and high grip Gravity DNA Compound, which pairs a 60a durometer rubber beneath the tread for support and a tacky 45a durometer rubber for the exposed tread.
The Convict is only available as 27.5×2.5” for now.
The two other versions utilize WTB’s TCS tough casing, which ads ~180g, but offers better reliability and performance when things get gnarly. One version will also use the Gravity DNA compound, while the other version uses WTB’s faster rolling Dual DNA compound. This tire has a firmer compound throughout, with softer rubber for the side knobs.
