Whyte Bikes debuts 150mm travel 29er

2017 Sea Otter Classic

Whyte S-150

The Whyte S-150 is an all-new 150mm travel 29er available in August.

Launched in the U.S. in October 2015, U.K.-based Whyte Bikes is one of several direct to consumer brands offering top shelf design, performance and component spec at retail pricing as much as 30 percent less than leading competitors. Started in the early 1990s by Jon Whyte, a former Benetton Formula 1 design engineer, Whyte has since become a household high performance bike brand in Europe, boosting the outstanding overall value of this direct to consumer brand.

The S-150 features a carbon front triangle and alloy rear triangle with sleek looks.

Just in time for Sea Otter, Whyte is showing off the all-new S-150, a 150mm front and rear travel 29-inch trail bike with all the right geometry numbers and beautiful design aesthetic, highlighted by little details like their signature frame integrated seatpost clamp with rubber outer seal to keep out the elements.

Pivot and linkage enhancements should improve pedaling efficiency and stiffness.

Besides the impressive 150mm travel, the S-150 consists of a carbon front triangle with alloy rear triangle and a new pivot and larger diameter bearing design for better performance. The S-150 will feature the all-new RockShox Pike up front and the new Metric Deluxe rear shock.

ISCG tabs but no provision for a front derailleur, so 1x only on the S-150.

The bigger news is with the geometry, boasting a rather slack 65.5 degree head tube angle and short chainstays at 435mm, ensuring this big wheel bike will handle with the same agility as their award-winning 27.5-inch T-130 trail bike. Boost front and rear hub spacing accommodates wider tires and a flat mount rear brake makes setup easier. The S-150 features ISCG tabs but no provision for a front derailleur, so 1x only.

Pricing and full specs for the S-150 will be available in July.

Since this photographed bike is the only S-150 in existence as of right now, full specs and pricing details will be available in early July, and bikes will be ready to ship by August. Expect the S-150 to be very competitively priced even with top of the line componentry. Stay tuned to Mtbr for a first ride look at this exciting new trail bike from Whyte.
