Vitus launches carbon Sommet CR and CRX 27.5 trail bikes
Vitus Bikes, once a famed French road cycling brand, continues to make a name for itself in the mountain bike arena with the launch of two new carbon fiber models, the 155mm travel Sommet CR and Sommet CRX 27.5” trail bikes.
Both frames feature carbon monocoque front triangle with an alloy rear. Cable routing is fully internal, and they use a BB92 bottom bracket, which avails a greater contact point for the oversized, stiffness-enhancing downtube. Shared component spec includes a 160mm RockShox Pike fork, RockShox Monarch Plus RC3 DebonAir shock, SRAM X1/XO1 shifting, RaceFace cranks, and a mix of WTB and Nukeproof finishing touches.
Rear suspension design is a traditional four-bar V-link that Vitus first launched in 2015.
“We’ve invested significant R&D time into developing this new frame resulting in a carbon front triangle that is over 300 grams lighter than the alloy version,” explained Vitus brand manager Simon Cordner, who claimed a size medium CRX model weighs 28 pounds.
As primary complete bike house brand of Chain Reaction Cycles, the new Vitus bikes are available consumer direct through the Northern Ireland-based on-line retailer’s website. The Sommet CR will retail $3375, with the Sommet CRX coming in at $4500. Availability is set for May 2016.
Take a tour of Chain Reaction Cycles world headquarters and find out why buying a bike from overseas retailers just got less expensive.
All Vitus Bikes are backed by a 5-year warranty handled through the Chain Reaction Cycles website. Vitus also has a 50-percent off crash replacement policy. Offerings include mountain, road, ‘cross and city.
