Martin Maes – when he first popped up in the Enduro World Series scene as a 16-year old, he looked like a kid among men. But then he placed 7th in the Open division of the EWS #4 in Winter Park, CO in 2013. He simply had no competition in his age group brackets so he dabbled in the Open division on his rookie year. Then on the final race in Finale Ligure, he placed 3rd.
This is the story of a son that looked up to the riding prowess of his father.
In a matter of 6 years, Martin Maes has gone from being a rookie teenager with an abundant potential to be one of the best mountain bikers in the world. This is what’s at stake for Martin Maes a he’s already had a great career as he reaches 21 years of age. What is at stake is greatness and the potential to be one of the best mountain bikers to have ever competed.
Martin Maes may be from Belgium but he really is made of almost pure biking DNA.
After starting 2018 with an EWS Chile finish of second place, he dislocated his shoulder early in the season. Maes persevered and finally took the coveted first place at Enduro World Series in Whistler. Weeks later, he stunned the mountain biking world by taking gold at UCI Downhill World Cup in La Bresse. This achievement elevated him to an elite group of athletes that have claimed victory in multiple disciplines.
He has retooled his body to be completely ready for the Enduro World Series and World Cup Downhill.
