2017 Sea Otter Classic

Topeak Ninja

Skip the pump in the jersey or pack and carry a pair of CO2s instead.

Adding to their Ninja product platform of concealed tools introduced last year, Topeak is offering a few updated versions of the line for 2017. On the mountain bike side are two new CO2 carrying options, the Ninja C02 and Ninja CO2 Plus. Both attach to bottle mounts on the bike and carry two CO2 cartridges along with a Micro Airbooster. The Plus version comes with bottle cage that also houses two tire levers. Retail for the caged version is $50. The standard Ninja CO2 goes for $45.

Topeak Ratchet Rocket Lite

The Topeak Ratchet Rocket Lite has everything you need in one compact package.

On the tool side of things, Topeak’s Ratchet Rocket Lite gets an NTX added to the set, which stands for Nano torqBits. So in addition to 2, 2.5, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8mm Allen keys, a T10 and T25 Torx, #2 Phillips and two tire levers, there are three tiny torque sockets for 4, 5, and 6 Nm applications. The wrench and bits are hardened steel and tuck away nicely in the included nylon carrying case. MSRP is $89 for the NTX version, $39 for the kit without the torque bits.

Topeak Backloader

Who’s ready from some bikepacking?

Improving upon their bikepacking gear, the new Backloader comes in two sizes, 6 liter and 10 liters, and includes an internal drybag stuff sack that is so air tight it features a bleed valve to compress it down to the smallest package possible, making it easier to put it back into the main bag. In conjunction with three compression straps, the Backloader attaches to saddle and post with an updated system which is said to hold its load snug to reduce sway while riding. Retail is $89, including the internal dry bag.

Topeak Joe Blow TT

Pump up tires faster with the Joe Blow TT.

The Joe Blow pump family sees a new addition with the Joe Blow TT. At $200, it’s not the most economical pump option out there, but there aren’t too many floor pumps on the market that boast the ability to inflate a road tire from 20psi to 100psi in 6 strokes. Other highlights of the high-volume pump include a gauge rated to 200psi, a metal smarthead with release valve that works with Presta and Schrader, and a two-stage chamber allowing for impressively quick inflation of tires.
