Top Ten Most Viewed Mtbr Articles of 2014
Here at Mtbr, there are many different metrics we look at to determine how popular an article, feature or category is. One way to gauge how hot a story is, is the number of Facebook likes it garners. Granted, Facebook is not for everyone but in today’s world of Social Media, sharing via personal networks is a big factor. How many comments an article gets is also a good indication of whether or not the subject is about something that people really care about. Many of the Angry SingleSpeeders articles seem to draw out the most “fervent” of comments from our readers. But perhaps the single biggest measure is the number of page views an article gets.
We track page view numbers on the back end of our site using Google Analytics, but there is also a page view count within our articles themselves. Often times these numbers will not match up and there are various reasons for this, but the most common one is that Google Analytics also counts the number of image loads. So an article with a bunch of images (like the Bike Lights Tunnel Beam Pattern) will get many more views than what is shown within the article itself.
So, without further ado, here are the Most Viewed articles (or categories) from 2014.
1. Outerbike photo preview of 2015′s hottest mountain bikes
Long time Mtbr forum member and contributor Krob’s bike write-ups are always popular on our site and this year was no different. Even though we took a bit of a different approach to Krob’s contribution, it’s obvious that people want to see the latest and greatest bikes especially in the All Mountain/Trail/Enduro category.
Krob’s rode bikes from Giant, Yeti, Pivot, Santa Cruz, Salsa, Transition, Intense and more. Read the full article here: https://reviews.mtbr.com/outerbike-photo-preview-of-2015s-hottest-mountain-bikes

3. Bike Lights Shootout
Mtbr has been doing the Light Shootout for many years now and it is always a very popular category. It is important to note that it is a category and that the page views are counted for each individual article that falls under that category.
Bike lights have never had more features, been brighter or cheaper when measured in lumens per dollar. We tested dozens and dozens of commuter lights, night riding lights, tail lights and more. We give you the hard data and our expert opinion as well.

5. Video: Mountain bikers drop through sinkhole in Mexico
Videos are always popular content and the competition for most viewed video was stiff. Kelly McGarry’s Red Bull Rampage crash and Matt Hunter’s bar scraping short edit were both super popular.
But it was the video of Aaron Chase (and friends Eric Porter and Chris Van Dine) dropping through a huge sinkhole in Mexico that garnered the most views.

So there you have it. We hope you enjoy a look back at some of the most “popular” articles of 2014. Perhaps one of the most surprising things we learned when crunching these numbers was that the Angry SingleSpeeder’s contributions didn’t land at least one in the top ten. So where did ASS’s musings fall? His most viewed article of 2014 was his “Fat Bikes…Meh” (reviews.mtbr.com/the-angry-singlespeeder-fat-bikes-meh) that came in at 17th.
