Thule DoubleTrack Pro bike rack review
What is it
Hitch racks are gaining popularity now with vehicle compatibility and convenience, mileage and wind-noise advantages. But most of the tray rack offerings these days cost over $400 and weight over 50 lbs. Thule offers a hitch rack that’s easier on the wallet.
Pros
- $349 is lower than most premium tray racks today
- 35 lb weight makes it easier to install and remove
- 1.25″ and 2 inch wobble-free compatibility
- excellent build and materials
- Fat bike and Plus bike compatibility
- Fairly compact yet accommodates bikes with up to 48″ of wheelbase easily
Cons
- Down tube clamp style is not as versatile as those that rachet on to the wheels
- 35 lb bike capacity does not allow the heaviest bikes
- Straps are long and cumbersome
- No tilt down to open hatch with bikes mounted
- Pretty low to the ground so not ideal for low hitch mounts
