Ten: The BC Bike Race Movie
The globe is dotted with all manner of cross-country stage races. From South Africa’s Cape Epic, to Trans Pyrenees and Trans Alps in Europe, to the just completed Transylvania Epic in Pennsylvania. All bring something unique and challenging to the table, but for our money the absolute best of this bunch is the famed BC Bike Race, held annually for the last decade on the testing trails of British Columbia.
Dubbed the ultimate singletrack experience, BCBR has made its name as a rider’s race. The winner has not always been the man or women with the highest lactate threshold. Instead the ability to handle a bike on techy terrain is paramount, for while this may be an XC race, it’s far from the fire road showdown that are hallmark of so many of these long distance affairs.
To ride BC Bike Race is to sample some of BC’s (if not the world’s) best trails in places such as Vancouver Island, the Sunshine Coast, Squamish, and of course Whistler, traditional finish site for the race.
In 2016, BC Bike Race celebrated its 10th running and made a film about it. This movie follows racers and crew alike through what’s arguably the best week of their year, and is a celebration of their dedication and hard work. Through it, BCBR shares its culture telling the story of the race both on the dirt and behind the scenes. Grab a beer, sit back, relax, and enjoy.
