Sugoi RSX NeoShell Jacket and RSX Suspension Bib Shorts

Sugoi has been making a concerted effort to appeal more and more to the mountain biker. Long known for quality apparel for road cyclists, Sugoi has some innovative new offerings. Sugoi has an exclusive collaboration with Polartec for the NeoShell material of the RSX jacket which makes it 100% waterproof and 99.9% windproof, but is twice as breathable as the competitor’s jacket. Rain can’t get in, but the heat can escape and keep you comfortable, dry and warm. Sugoi had a cool, little display at their booth showing just how much air can pass through their material, but remain waterproof.

In this video, Richard Adams from Sugoi gives us the highlights of the RSX NeoShell jacket as well as the new RSX suspension bib shorts for mountain bikers.

The RSX NeoShell Jacket

Sugoi also makes a road version called the RSE jacket, but for the RSX, the pockets have been moved forward to allow access for hydration pack wearers. Also, the mountain bike version has a detachable hood for those drippy days under frosty trees. The RSX NeoShell Jacket comes in sizes S through XXL and is available in cyan or black. You can find it at your local Sugoi dealer now and the jacket has an MSRP of $300.

The RSX NeoShell Jacket features:

  • Fabric: Polartec NeoShell
  • Fabric Blend: 100% Nylon Face / 100% Polyurethane laminate / 100% Polyester back
  • Fabric Metrics: 3.40 oz/yd2, 115 gsm, WPR 10000 mm
Sugoi RSX Suspension Bib Short

Another new piece from the Sping 2014 collection is the all new RSX Suspension Bib Short. This is a baggy short with an integrated mesh bib inner short. The RSX bib short is a lightweight short that is made for all day comfort. One of the biggest problems of wearing bib shorts is when you have to take a leak. Well, Sugoi has this figured out…the RSX bib short has a fly built into it. Voila!

The RSX bib short also features Sugoi’s Formula FX Chamois which features: “excellent breathability, exceptional numbness relief, vibration dampening and exceptional mobility.” And like the current RSX baggy short, the RSX bib short features BOA dial adjusters for cinching up the shorts. The short also features adjustments so that you can adjust how high (or low) they ride in comparison with the inner liner.

The Sugoi RSX suspension bib short features:

  • Lightweight stretch woven outer shell provides ergonomic freedom of movement
  • Bonded mesh paneling for enhanced airflow and breathability
  • Bib features mesh zone construction and a fly for calls of nature

The new Sugoi Suspension Bib shorts will be available Spring 2014.

Our Take:
Our experience with Sugoi’s products has shown that their quality is top notch. The material of the new RSX NeoShell jacket sounds interesting and we look forward to testing it. Our current favorite MTB jacket is from the competition (Gore Bike Wear Fusion AS Cross Jacket) so it will be a good comparison.

From the manufacturer:

“SUGOI Introduces the RSE & RSX NeoShell – The World’s Most Breathable Waterproof Cycling Jacket”

“The Old Paradigm in the waterproof / breathable equation was one of compromise: a hard shell prioritized waterproofness but breathability always suffered, whereas a soft-shell placed a premium on breathability but couldn’t claim to be truly waterproof. In the cold, wet training grounds of coastal British Columbia, compromise is a dirty word. Our partnership with Polartec® gave us exclusive access to NeoShell®, a remarkable new fabric that allowed us to create the jacket we need to defeat Mother Nature at her own game. The secret is unprecedented breathability, courtesy of dynamic air exchange. Say goodbye to pit zips and hello to the RSE & RSX NeoShell collection from SUGOI- the world’s most breathable waterproof cycling jackets.”
