Star gazing Interbike: Rider celeb sightings from Outdoor Demo
As the cycling industry gravitates to Las Vegas for the annual Interbike trade show this week, the Mtbr staff will be on high alert looking for the heroes from our sport who have plied their trade as professional riders. Here’s a look at a few of the people we ran into today at Outdoor Demo.
The ever-smiling Leigh Donovan showed us her lunch between appointments at Outdoor Demo this afternoon. The 1995 World Downhill Champ launched her wildly successful ichoosebikes mountain bike clinic series this year and is the process of ironing out details with sponsors Liv and SRAM for her 2015 program. She’s also on hand to be inducted to the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame Wednesday night, an honor that will bookend her induction to the BMX Hall of Fame last year. A hearty Mtbr congrats to a great and gracious champion.
Marin/SR Suntour/Shimano rider Kyle Warner leads the 2014 pro men’s North American Enduro Tour standings and is at Interbike hot off his third place finish at the OverMountain Enduro at the Highland Bike Park in Northfield, NH. The friendly Chico, Calif. native was on hand at Marin Bike’s Outdoor Demo booth stoking dealers out on his Rift Zone Carbon 29er.
Super shredder Katie Holden is at the show talking up her bike sponsor Liv/Giant.
We caught trials ace, mountain bike ambassador and Mtbr columnist Jeff Lenosky between hotlaps on the Bootleg Canyon trails. The Giant and Mavic-sponsored would later shoot some how-to photos for his next article–a how-to on climbing steep trails.
Finally, we ran into the Boulder ‘cross duo of Ben Berden and Nicole Duke taking a breather at Outdoor Demo. Bearden was on hand for his sponsor Raleigh, while Duke represented for Marin. And lest you think she’s just a roadie in disguise, Duke has some serious MTB cred–she raced pro downhill for Mongoose back in the mid ’90’s.
