Specialized’s Ambush helmet is a favorite for many riders due to its protection, fit and styling. Now the Big Red S has followed it up with the Ambush Comp, which comes in at a more affordable $120 price point.

Spotted in the wild of the Sunshine Coast in BC, the Ambush is one of the more attractive helmets around.

For $60 less than the original Ambush, the new lid still has an adjustable visor that pivots out of the way, but also stays in place with an indexing system. The Ambush Comp also has the same 360 fit system that cradles the head and isolates it from the helmet shell, but with a few minor modifications to cut costs. The straps come out of the shell instead of being in-molded on the sides, weight jumps from 280 grams to 300, and the shell utilizes fewer foam compositions. But don’t worry, the new helmet still passes all the same safety tests as the original Ambush.

6 color options are available.

The new helmet still looks good and now comes in six colors, ranging from simple black and white to brighter colors and graphics.

The helmets sport the same good ventilation of the original Ambush.

The new helmet’s ventilation is just as good as the original Ambush.
