Special 25th Anniversary GT Zaskar Carbon Announced for 2016
At the recent Bike Press Camp event in Park City, Utah, GT Bicycles launched the 25th Anniversary Edition of the Zaskar with 4 special carbon models including the LTD Carbon. Hans Rey was on hand to give us the information about the origins of the Zaskar himself. Rey explained that the name Zaskar comes from the Zanskar mountain range in Tibet and that the bike first debuted in 1991. It remains the only bike to have won World Cups in downhill, cross country, slalom and trials.
Rey tells us, “The GT Zaskar is truly an iconic bike. Since 1991, I’ve not only ridden Zaskars to countless victories, but being such a versatile bike, it has literally taken me around the world on amazing adventures. And with the new 2016 Zaskars, GT made sure they kept the soul of its hard-charging, fun-riding heritage.”
For 2016, the new Zaskar is available in both carbon and alloy versions. Although altered a bit, it still retains the classic Triple Triangle design and it has a more aggressive stance than previous version’s XC oriented angles. New school geometry combined with 27.5″ wheels make it a multi-use hardtail.

The only drawback for US customers is that the Zaskar will only be available here in the Carbon Expert and Carbon Elite models. The two carbon models will come in 5 sizes (XS, SM, MD, LG, XL) and the four alloy models will come in 6 sizes (XXS, XS, SM, MD, LG, XL). There will be four alloy versions available in the US, which should be solid sellers for GT. Pricing ranges from $2,300 to $5,000 and these bikes will be available in October.
