Shimano announces new Deore groupset, wide-range SLX, and XT goes boost
While Shimano’s XTR and XT product lines might get all the attention, it’s the Deore group that always impresses us. These budget oriented bits aren’t the lightest or fanciest, but they offer incredible value for the money.
Deore Drivetrain
This year, Shimano gave the new Deore M6000 group some major updates. While it remains a 10-speed drivetrain, it now borrows more technology and design cues from the higher end groupsets.
Unfortunately, there’s still no dedicated 1x option, but Shimano has expanded the range by offering a wider 11-42T cassette. They’ve also upgraded the crankset (FC-6000) with the same look and bolt pattern as XT and XTR. This crank will be available in both standards and boost spacing.
In nondrivetrain related news, the Deore brakes now share the same svelte profile as the higher end stoppers. We’re also digging the switch to all black over the previous two-tone look.
SLX Drivetrain
The SLX groupset sits a tier above the Deore level. The big news for this drivetrain is the new 11-46T (CS-M7000) cassette for 1x setups. Price is TBA.
Shimano is also offering a new 2×11 SLX branded crankset (FC-MT600) with 36-24 gearing in both standards and Boost spacing.
XT goes Boost
The wheel line-up has also been updated with new boost hubs. Both the Shimano XT Race (M8000) and Trail (M8020) XT wheelsets will now feature these hubs.
