We saw a prototype of Pivot’s new DH bike in action at the tail end of the 2013 World Cup circuit. A carbon production version was unveiled at Sea Otter this year and we caught up with Pivot Cycles President Chris Cocalis to get the complete rundown.
The Pivot Phoenix DH Carbon is a full carbon race bike weighing in at 33.8, complete. Built on the newer linkage design Pivot designed for their Mach 6, the Phoenix makes use of the extra area on the back of the bike to accommodate 27.5 wheels and a solid amount of travel (8+ inches). Pivot worked with WTB to develop the new Hightail saddle, maximizing rear end clearance even further by utilizing a saddle designed with a larger cutout in the back, a thinner base and wider rails.
The shock extension is built to be compatible with multiple shocks and features an additional integrated bottom out bumper. Integrated bumpers on the side of the bike remove to reveal wide cable openings that allow you to feed your internal cables through the frame, creating a very clean setup and helping to ensure protection from mud and contaminants.
Click the video for a full breakdown of techs and specs and look for this bike to be available mid-summer 2014.
