Sea Otter Goodies: Five products that caught our eye
That’s Pub’s Blake Coderre holding down the fort at Sea Otter. They have a ton of carbon wheel options.
We’ve already covered a ton of new products from this year’s Sea Otter Classic, including everything from a one-piece carbon wheel, to a new tire insert, real time tire pressure gauge, a budget-priced helmet, gravity shoes, and even a very cool looking kid’s bike. But of course there is more, including these five intriguing goodies that we happened upon during our time in California.
Xpedo Ambix Pedal
For the flat pedal-curious crowd comes the Xpedo’s Ambix MTB pedal. On one side it’s a flat pedal complete with removable pins. But the other side has a clipless design that’s SPD-compatible for those moments when you’d rather be clipped in. Price is $89 and they should be available later this summer. Vee Zilent Sports Tire
To satisfy the ever-increasing demand for all things gravel/road plus related, Vee Tire Co. is offering the Zilent Sports. It comes in 650b x 47 or 700 x 40 configurations, has reinforced sidewalls, and has a claimed weight of 580 grams. It has a tan sidewall, 90 tpi casing, is tubeless ready, and sells for $50. Saris Glide Hitch Rack
Due to release this month is the new Saris Glide Hitch Rack, which comes in 4- and 5-bike configurations, is fully locking, and as the name implies, can glide away from your car making it easier to load groceries. Construction material is aluminum to help keep weight low, and the design is such that the weight of the bikes helps bring the rack back into transport position. Slime Tubeless Premium Sealant
In the ongoing war against tire punctures, Slime was showing off its Tubeless Premium Sealant, which they claim delivers wider and more even coverage than the competition. In the photo above, that’s Slime on the left. You can likely guess what the other two brands are.
Slime also claims their new formulation is longer lasting and is not harmed by use of CO2s. Price is $11 for an 8oz bottle. You can learn more at www.slime.com.
Pub Carbon Wheels
Lastly is not a single product, but an array of wheel options from St. Paul, Minnesota-based Pub Wheels. All their carbon wheels are built in-house, and they have offerings for everything from gravel to cyclocross to mountain and fat bikes, which is their specialty.
