Foes Mutz 27.5 Plus

I talked with Brent Foes of Foes Racing at Sea Otter about a few of his newest bikes. One of the most popular bikes is his conversion of the 26″ Mutz fat bike to 27.5″ Plus. The Mutz features a 6061 aluminum frame with a handcrafted monocoque top tube and a hydroformed downtube. It has adjustable rear wheel travel from 5″ to 5.5″ and comes in 4 sizes (SM, MD, LG, XL). The Mutz is sold as both a complete bikes or frame only. Frame only options include a choice of the FOX Float CTD adjustable Kashima shock (MSRP $2499) or the Cane Creek Inline AIR shock (MSRP $2549). As a 26″ fat bike, the Mutz weighs in at 32 lbs for the complete bike and the frame plus Fox shock weigh about 7.2 lbs. Both versions of the Mutz (26″ fat bike or 27.5″ plus bike) will continue to be produced and sold.

Other features of the Foes Mutz 27.5 Plus are:

  • Foes progressive linkage System
  • 2.3 : 1 Suspension Leverage Ratio
  • Tapered Head Tube1-1/8ZS , 1.5EX
  • Full complement Double Sealed Pivot Bearings
  • 100mm BB/shell with 12mm X 177mm rear hub spacing
  • 12mm Through Axle with Hanger nut combo

Foes Hydro H2 – 27.5

The Foes Hydro H2 is their 8″ DH rig that has also been redesigned for a new wheel size. The old 26″ bike now rolls on 27.5″ wheels and tires. The head angle has been slackened out about half a degree and the bottom bracket was dropped about a quarter of an inch. Also, the top tube lengths on all sizes (SM, MD, LG, XL) have been increased by an inch.

The frame maintains clearance for a 2.5″ tire and the weight was actually dropped a bit (about half a pound) from the old 26″ version. The bike highlighted here is the first one and Foes will have these available for purchase in about 4 weeks.

Also on display were the Foes F275 (with 5.5 to 6″ of travel) and Shaver 29 (with 5 to 5.5″ of travel).

Lastly, I asked Brent what was in the works right now and he told me that he is still doing a lot of testing and development of his other DH bike, the FFR (that we took a peek at last year). That bike will be ready by Interbike later this year. He is also working on a dedicated Plus size specific bike (not a converted fat bike) and is working with Fox and Rock Shox on the demand for more Plus size forks.
