Sea Otter: Five Ten shows all new Kestrel trail shoes with BOA closure system

Five Ten Kestrel
Five Ten was at the Sea Otter Classic showing their brand new enduro style mountain bike shoe called the Kestrel. The Kestrel is Five Ten’s first shoe to feature the popular BOA closure system used by many high-end cycling brands and offers a custom like fit with the turn of a dial. It is also the stiffest shoe they have ever made featuring a carbon-infused shank, but it’s not racer-boy, non-bending carbon stiff. True to their origins, this shoe retains a bit of cush while providing a better pedaling shoe. It has a dual rubber compound (grippy in the back, stiffer around the cleat) and slightly more narrow toe-box compared to some of Five Tens usual shoes (but it is definitely not as narrow as some euro design shoes). The upper is a sleek, low-profile design with a breathable mesh upper and a synthetic, weather-resistant toe box.

Five Freerider Contact
Also on display at Sea Otter was the new-ish Freerider Contact. The Contact is a new version of the Freerider XVi but features a slimmer, lower profile upper and it is a little bit lighter. But the mid-sole is still the same and provides the same stiffness as the previous Impact. The Contact is a non-SPD shoe with their Contact Outsole designed for all mountain style flat pedal riders.
