Sea Otter: Bulls Bikes Wild Edge Team 29 endurance race machine
Bulls Bikes is German brand that has been around for more than 20 years but they are new to the US market. They were displaying bikes at the Sea Otter Classic and they are using the popular direct-to-consumer business model here in the States. They make all different kinds of bicycles for the European market but they are concentrating on their mountain bike line and a handful of road bikes for American buyers. Highlighted here is their top-of-the-line Wild Edge Team 29, a carbon framed bike with 100mm of rear travel rolling on 29er wheels.
The Wild Edge Team 29 frame is monocoque carbon with a tapered headtube. The suspension design boasts “excellent anti-squat kinematics” and is designed for “competitive performance”. While they may be strangers in a strange land here in the US, Bull Bikes has a pretty big team of sponsored athletes that compete mostly in the endurance mountain bike arena at events like the Transalps, Trans Germany and the Cape Epic.
The Wild Edge Team 29 is spec’ed with Rock Shox’s RS-1 solo air upside down fork with remote lockout. The fork has 100mm of travel and is paired with a Rock Shox Monarch XX air shock with a similar 100mm of travel. The 2×11 Shimano drivetrain is a full XTR groupset. The cockpit is FSA K-Force carbon bar, stem and seatpost. The wheels are Stan’s NoTubes ZTR Crest 29 with SRAM X.0 hubs with Schwalbe Rocket Ron Evo 29×2.25 tires. The approximate weight of the size medium Wild Edge Team 29 is 22.7 lbs (claimed). The Team build is kitted with Shimano XTR and has a retail price of 5899.00.
There is a standard build with Shimano XT (but still with the Rock Shox RS-1 fork) that is available for $3799. The Bulls Bikes Wild Edge Team 29 is available in only MD (18″) and LG (20″) sizes for now. The only available finish is the white matte/black matte shown here. Besides the Wild Edge Team 29, Bulls Bikes also has carbon hardtails (in both 29 and 27.5 flavors) and a 140mm travel full suspension bike rolling on 27.5″ wheels available for the US market. In addition, they have 5 models of alloy road bikes for sale as well.
