Scott shows Nero Plus full-face helmet, new shoes
Swiss bike and gear maker Scott unveiled a bevy of new MTB goodies at the recent Eurobike trade show. Here’s a rundown of the key highlights starting with a new brain protector.
Nero Plus Helmet
The new Nero Plus helmet features MIPS brain protection system, which improves impact protection in angled impacts. For more safety, the helmet is equipped with a shatterproof visor and a heavy-duty D-ring closure system, which you normally would encounter in motor sports.
On the inside of the helmet you’ll find deep ventilation channels that help move air front to back. The air then exits through seven side and rear vents. Price is $219.
MTB RC SL Shoes
At 330g for a US8.5 size, world champion Nino Schurter’s shoes of choice are Scott’s lightest, stiffest, and most exotic-looking MTB kicks. The upper material is Carbitex, a textured material that is derived from carbon fiber. Closure is handled by two Boa IP1 dials. The lowers are built on an HMX spread tow carbon sole with stiffness index of 10 and a Corecell foam core. To be able to get necessary grip for hike-a-bike sections, Scott has mounted a lightweight ASE EVA outsole with a minimal Sticki rubber tread.
MTB RC Ultimate Shoes
Compared to the MTB RC SL shoes, the MTB RC Ultimate offer more comfort and breathability in the upper material due to a combination of a textile mesh with Carbitex. The carbon sole has the same foam core and stiffness index as the MTB RC SL’s. On this shoe Scott has put the same super light ASE EVA outsole with a minimal Sticki rubber tread. Price for each is $450.
MTB Comp Lace Shoes
Offering a classic lace closure and a relatively low weight (380g for US8.5 size), the MTB RC Lace shoes have a lot to offer for riders on tight budget. The upper part of the shoes has an adaptive fit upper pattern, featuring an offset lace closure system that articulates to better fit the shape of the rider’s foot. The injection composite sole allows efficient power transfer with its stiffness index 6. There’s also increased cleat adjustment range and a minimal Sticki race rubber outer sole which will allow ample traction on roots, rocks and loose soil. MSRP: $100.
