Oregon-based Rolf Prima has long been a respected player in the boutique road and triathlon wheel. Lance Armstrong played a big part in establishing some fame for the unique paired-spoke look that these handbuilt wheels are known for. And it’s that paired spoke patent that Rolf owns and licensed once licensed to Bontrager. Since 2012, Rolf has moved their unique wheel engineering into the mountain bike sector.

The Alsea+ ($2399) and Alsea XR+ ($1799) are the company’s first foray into the burgeoning plus bike market arena.

At the Sea Otter Classic, Rolf has unveiled two new models. The Alsea+ ($2399) and Alsea XR+ ($1799) are the company’s first foray into the burgeoning plus bike market arena. The 40mm internal width tubeless ready, carbon rim features a lightweight paired spoke design. Claimed weight is an impressive 1645 grams. The Alsea+ comes with White Industries XST hubs, while the XR use a Rolf house brand hub. And while the look is not exactly something that comes to mind when thinking rugged MTB wheelsets, the technology has a proven track record. We’re excited to give them a rip.

Both wheelsets feature 135/145mm and 148mm Boost compatible rear hub spacing.

This model comes in either 27.5 or 29, weighing 1510 grams and 1550 grams respectively. Both wheelsets feature 135/145mm and 148mm Boost compatible rear hub spacing.
