The Rocky Mountain Instinct Alloy 50 BC edition is the latest offering from the North Vancouver-based bike maker. It’s designed to shred the gnar — and do a reasonable job when the trail turns skyward. Because it’s a BC edition, the new Rocky Mountain Instinct Alloy 50 BC with wider bars, big tires, beefy wheels, and more capable suspension.

Updates across the platform include tooled axles, single-sided bearing pivots, integrated “Spirit Guide” chainguide, boost spacing, and Shimano Di2 and Fox Live compatibility. Progressive geometry, increased reach, a slackened headtube angle, and lowered the bottom bracket all conspire to add control and enhance descending capability.

Other updates on the Rocky Mountain Instinct Alloy 50 BC edition include a dedicated link delivering 155mm of rear travel (along with 160mm up front) along with a 1x optimized design with broader central pivot and lower standover height. The overall stiffer design is thanks to the one-piece seat stays new envelope, updated layup (47.7% more lateral stiffness), and modern parts compatibility such as boost spacing, metric shock lengths, and post-mount 180mm brakes. And all frame sizes fit a water bottle and reservoir shock inside the main triangle

Improved suspension performance comes from increased overall progression and support at sag, while making the small-bump performance more sensitive. The updated higher anti-squat values enhance pedaling efficiency and climbing capability. This tuning is what Rocky Mountain calls Smoothlink suspension. It features a controlled end-stroke and a rate-curve that feels more capable than the travel would suggest. This four-bar suspension design is centered on ride characteristics such as anti-squat, axle path, chain growth, rate curve, and anti-rise.
