RockShox updates Recon, Sektor, and Paragon Forks with improved internals
SRAM has updated several of its entry to mid level forks with improved internals. They are also available for a number of different wheel sizes and axle standards (click to enlarge).
SRAM has released a number of new products already this year, many of which are exciting not just because of their innovative new technology, but also the incredible value. Products like their new NX drivetrain are bringing high-end features to a price point any enthusiast can afford.
The latest in this string of product releases is an updated line of mid to entry level suspension forks, which now utilize both the Solo Air spring and Motion Control damper. For those who are unfamiliar with the tech, the Motion Control damper allows you to adjust the low speed compression. Since the Recon Silver is an entry level offering, there will still be a version with a 9mm QR, as well as a straight 1-⅛” steer (click to enlarge).
RockShox Recon Silver
First up is the updated Recon Silver, which shares the same chassis as the Reba, but utilizes steel upper tubes to help reduce cost. The fork will be available for 27.5”, 27.5” Boost, 29”, 29”/27.5” + Boost versions and travel options are 80mm, 100mm, or 120mm. Weight for a 27.5” model with a tapered AL steerer and 9mm QR is 1960 grams and the MSRP ranges from $235 to $295.
While most bikes equipped with Sektor forks won’t see extreme trail time, it won’t be because the fork isn’t capable of hooning (click to enlarge).
RockShox Sektor Silver
The Sektor is an OEM level model that often graces the front of entry level mountain bikes. It’s not particularly light at 2190 grams (based of a 29” model with a tapered steer and 15×100 maxle), but it is capable of trail-ish duty due to the Motion Control damper and Solo Air spring.
Sure, the Gold 30RL isn’t as light as a SID XX, but it’s damn light for the price (click to enlarge).
RockShox 30 Gold
The RockShox Gold was already a good option for XC riders on a tight budget, but it’s even better now due to the new damper. It has 30mm stanchions and is available for either 26”, 27.5”, and 29” wheels. The fork ships with either a tapered or straight steerer, but is only available with a QR. Weight is 1841 grams for a 27.5” fork with a tapered steer and retail is between $345 to $425.

RockShox Paragon Gold
Is that a Pike with V-Brake posts? No, it’s the updated Paragon fork, which was designed to help take the edge off your ride around town. Like the more mountain-oriented suspension products that were updated, the Paragon fork will also feature a Solo Air spring and Motion Control damper.
In addition to helping you tackle the concrete jungle, the fork brace incorporates a light mount, fender mounts, and a way to conceal your dynamo wiring harness.
This fork is designed for 700c wheels and will ship with either 50mm or 65mm of travel. Weight is 1827 grams and is either disc or rim brake specific. It’s intended to be an OEM product, but is available aftermarket for $255.
