Review: Sugoi RSX Jersey and Shorts

Premium mountain bike apparel that provides great warm/hot weather performance, quality materials and new tech features.

Sugoi is a Canadian clothing company with a Japanese name that has been around for many years. SUGOI is a long time manufacturer of high-end cycling, triathlon, and run apparel (Sugoi is the official performance apparel of Ironman as well as the maker of the official team jersey of Cannondale Pro Cycling). But they have recently ramped up their mountain bike specific clothes and a key part of this is their top of the line RSX models which are promoted as “Pro-level fit for the performance trail rider, featuring advanced fabrics and innovative details”. For the past few weeks, I have been testing the new Sugoi RSX Jersey and the 2014 version of the RSX Short.

Sugoi RSX Jersey

The mountain bike jerseys that Sugoi make follow very closely with their offerings for road cyclists in regards to material and fit. The RSX jersey is a very sheer, light weight jersey that is great in warm to hot weather. The lightweight Icefil synthetic material does an excellent job of wicking away moisture and allowing your skin to breathe.

Besides the material, the construction uses mesh inserts in key areas to provide comfort and increased airflow. The single back, zippered pocket went mostly unused since I ride with a pack 95% of the time, but it’s nice to know it’s their if need be. There is a nice sun-glass wiper material on the underside of where the Sugoi logo is located that did come in handy.

The fit is “roadie” snug, but not uncomfortably so. I’ve grown accustom to jerseys with long front zippers so at first, I thought the zipper on the RSX jersey was a bit short, but with the excellent moisture wicking of this jersey, the shorter zipper wasn’t an issue. The RSX jersey comes in 5 sizes (SM, MD, LG, XL, XXL) and 3 colors (White, Cyan, Black/Lotus) with an MSRP of $100.00.

The features of the Sugoi RSX Jersey are:

  • Raglan sleeve construction contours for an optimal fit when in the ride position
  • Zone construction featuring mesh panel inserts for airflow and breathability
  • Front zipper for ventilation
  • Bonded rear pocket construction optimized for carrying ride essentials
