Review: Ergon BX1 hydration pack
Lowdown: Ergon BX1 Hydration Pack
Known for its ergonomically designed, German engineered products, Ergon offers a quality lineup of diverse mountain bike hydration packs. Positioned in the “racing” category, the BX1 provides 100 fluid ounces of hydration capacity, plus just enough extra space for your necessities. An aluminum brace provides the otherwise simple pack with some solid structure, while the four raised back pads offer decent weight distribution. At 519 grams, the BX1 is surprisingly light for its structural integrity. Constructed from ripstop nylon with water resistant zippers, it also does well no matter what the weather, keeping gear dry and protected even when riding in a light rain storm.
Fit of the BX1 is comfortable and it offers ample adjustability, though maybe not as much as other brands. The shoulder straps fit comfortably despite the minimalist padding. Loaded weight is evenly distributed through the shoulders and waist strap with Ergon’s “Adaptive Carry System” that keeps weight close into the back. Riders looking for a minimalist pack for short day rides or riders who prefer to carry only the essentials will appreciate the BX1’s simplicity and minimalism. If you like to carry everything but the kitchen sink even on the shortest of rides, the BX1 is not for you.

Review: Ergon BX1 Pack
Being prepared on the trail is key to a quality ride, but lugging around a heavy, over-engineered pack is often too much for most rides. If this sounds like a familiar problem, the Ergon BX1 might be the solution. It’s a comfortable minimalist pack that allows you to carry the necessities without unnecessary bulk.
Designed in Germany, it has just enough going on to be comfortable and functional without being too much. Weight is distributed through Ergon’s Adaptive Carry System that is focused on keeping the pack’s loaded weight in close to the rider, thus spreading it out between the shoulder and waist straps.
