Downhill racing pioneer Greg Herbold is featured in the latest installment from the Pro’s Closet Museum Series. This future Mountain Bike Hall of Famer was already a two-time national downhill champion by 1990, but it was his win in the first ever World Championships held in Durango, Colorado, that launched Greg “Hair-Ball” Herbold into the national spotlight. In this video, HB details the technical aspects of his race winning bike, as well as the challenges downhill racers faced in the early 1990’s — like racing on hardtails, tension disks, and peddling uphill. My how things have changed.
