Pivot updates Shuttle E-MTB, hits lower price point

Pivot Cycles was the first U.S. boutique mountain bike brand to plug in and go electric, initially offering its Shuttle eMTB in Europe before bringing the Class 1 pedal-assist model across the Pond in spring 2018. Roughly a year later, the second-generation Shuttle is being introduced with changes including 29-inch wheels and tires standard rather than 27.5-plus, as well as a 10-millimeter bump up in front travel.
The Shuttle also now comes in two spec levels instead of just one to reach a more affordable price point than the $10,000 first-gen model.
“Since day one, riders have been loving the Shuttle but asking for a more affordable version,” Pivot Cycles president and CEO Chris Cocalis said. “I am pleased that this day is finally here, and we did it while significantly improving the bike at the same time.”
Both spec levels feature the same carbon frame with 140 millimeters of DW-Link rear suspension, 157-millimeter Super Boost rear hub spacing and a new integrated rotor magnet sensor. Pivot backs the frame with a 10-year warranty.
The Race XT-level Shuttle (MSRP: $7,899) is spec’d with Shimano’s STEPS E7000 drive unit, an XT drivetrain and Fox Performance suspension, while the top-shelf Team XTR version ($10,499) boasts a STEPS E8000 drive unit, Shimano’s new 12-speed XTR drivetrain and Factory-level Fox suspension with Kashima coating both front and rear.
The drive unit’s integrated battery now detaches easily with a new quick-release mount, and the system includes Shimano’s new mode switch mounted next to the left handlebar grip, allowing for the dropper seatpost lever to be mounted under the handlebar.
For both bikes, Pivot is spec’ing 160-millimeter-travel Fox 36 forks with a 44-millimeter offset, aimed at improving high-speed stability and cornering ability. The models also feature custom-tuned Fox Float DPX2 shocks with increased oil capacity and twin-tube internal design.
Geometry highlights include a 65.2-degree head angle (in sizes S-L; 65.3 degrees for XL), 74-degree effective seat tube angle, 17.2-inch chainstays, and a toptube length ranging from 23.6 inches (size S) to 26.3 inches (XL).
The Team XTR version in a steel blue colorway tips the scales at 44.75 pounds, while the black and sterling silver Race XT model weighs 46.25 pounds.
